Megastar Chiru matches Amitabh Bachchan’s humility & dignity

Sunday, April 30th, 2006

Amitabh Bachchan is literally the tallest actor of Indian cinema in terms of stature, status and popularity. When he came to grace the felicitation ceremony of Padmabhushan Chiranjeevi in Hyderabad recently, it was quite obvious when everyone from the Telugu film fraternity wanted to get close to him for a memorable handshake and a keepsake photograph.
However, megastar Chiranjeevi didn’t seem to be dwarfed by Amitabh’s presence, particularly when both of them shared the same garland. Chiru seemed to be matching Amitabh’s humility and dignity, virtues almost extinct in today’s filmstars. Amitabh generously went on to call Chiru the “King of Indian Cinema”, Chiru bowed down to touch the former’s feet. Commendable feats?!

Heroines are not the ones behind Chiru’s stardom !

Sunday, April 30th, 2006

While glamorous heroines of yesteryears (barring Sridevi who was accompanied by hubby Boney Kapoor) like Jayaprada, Jayasudha, Suhasini and Radhika went on narrating their memorable experiences with their memorable hero Chiru, saying how much they adored him, implicitly seeking applause for their contribution to his stardom, humble Chiru’s unmindful wife Surekha seemed to be the personification of dignity and grace.
Obviously, her contribution is much more than all his heroines put together. As they say, behind the success of every man, there’s a woman. And in Chiru’s success story, it definitely is his beloved wife.

Saithan Pak Sponsored Taliban Kills Our Andhrite Engineer Surya In Afghanistan

Sunday, April 30th, 2006

The news of Indian telecom engineer K. Suryanarayana’s killing by his Taliban abductors in Afghanistan shattered his family here. The engineer’s wife Manjula fainted while his two daughters and a son, all aged between 5 and 13 years, were crying inconsolably. His father, K. Chandrasekhar, a retired government employee and mother were too shocked to react. The family received the news from the television channels barely an hour after they met Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who assured them that the government was making all efforts to seek his early and safe release. After some reassuring words by the chief minister came the shocking news. Gloom descended on the house of Suryanarayana in the middle class Chandanagar area in Malkajgiri neighborhood. State Minister for Information Mohammed Ali Shabbir, who had reached the house to meet the family members, said the state government had received no information on Suryanarayana. Relatives and friends of the 41-year-old engineer came rushing to the house after the news channels broke the news. They were seen consoling Manjula, who had threatened on Saturday to commit suicide along with her children if the government failed to seek his release. Some family members were unhappy with the news channels for breaking the news without confirmation from the Indian government. “We will not believe this unless we see the picture of the body claimed to have been recovered in Kandahar,” said one relative. The family is still hoping that some miracle would happen and the body claimed to have been found would not be of Suryanarayana. The family on Saturday had appealed to the Taliban to release him unharmed. They were not ready to believe that he was killed even before the deadline set by the abductors for all Indians to leave Afghanistan ended. Suryanarayana, who was working as a telecom engineer at Tata Tele Services in Hyderabad, had joined the Bahraini company Al-Moyad in Afghanistan only four months ago to work on a telecom project. He had come to meet the family 20 days ago before returning to Afghanistan. He was abducted on Friday evening when he was travelling from Kalat, capital of Zabul province, to Ghazni.
